REACHTo help develop tomorrow's technical talent, Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector, headquartered near Baltimore Washington International Airport, is introducing the REAACH outreach program in collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education and Project Lead the Way to provide teachers and students with practical hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) insight in the classroom on a regular basis.

As a result of mentoring programs like WORTHY, DiscoverE and TEAACH, Northrop Grumman has received an increasing number of requests from schools to have engineers visit and provide an overview of career options in engineering and technology. One response to this request is the creation of the REAACH program that will team experienced engineers with teachers to influence an even larger number of students.

During the 2008-2009 school year, up to 15 employees will be selected to pilot this new STEM outreach program that will partner a teacher with a retired or current Northrop Grumman engineer in the classroom. The engineers will serve as mentors for teachers involved in the Project Lead the Way curriculum by providing regular support in the classroom and coaching behind-the-scenes.  The engineers will provide the teachers with the opportunity to learn more about engineering and science professions and how to integrate "real-world" lessons learned into their classroom instruction. Additionally, the engineers will participate in some classroom instruction via "hands-on" learning activities while sharing their industry perspectives and commitment to their profession.
