Use of Resources

  1. We use the same parts on different contracts at my division. Can we "borrow" parts from one job to use on another in a rush situation?
    1. You may not make such changes on government programs unless permitted by the affected contracts and you've been given proper written authorization by the affected customers. Material accounting systems may allow you to transfer parts and their associated costs within a program (to expedite spare parts, for example), but this requires appropriate prior written authorization by the company's affected program manager.
  2. Several departments, including mine, use a software program purchased by Northrop Grumman. Another department will have to wait two weeks for their copy. May we copy ours and let them use it until theirs arrives?
    1. No. You may not make copies of licensed software without written permission of the copyright owner.
  3. There is a piece of government-owned test equipment in a nearby area. Our equipment is being repaired. Can we move the government equipment into our area, use it and return it later?
    1. No. Government property is provided to Northrop Grumman only for use on specific contracts. To use it for any other purpose, without prior government authorization, violates our contractual agreement, and may result in civil or criminal penalties for you and for Northrop Grumman.
  4. I drive a company truck. I'd like to use it at lunchtime to move some furniture. I'll pay for the gas. Is this okay?
    1. The personal use of company property is a violation of our policy. You should not use the truck.
  5. I'm an engineer attending a university program through Northrop Grumman's Educational Reimbursement Plan. May I use the personal computer on my desk during my lunch break to complete a term paper?
    1. The answer is basically the same as for the previous question. However, if your school work relates to your job, it may be permitted, with management approval, to use company equipment. This would have to be authorized in writing by your supervisor.
  6. I'm active in my community school district. May I use the copy machine in my department to reproduce mass mailing materials for a parent-teacher meeting?
    1. The general rule on the use of Northrop Grumman property applies to this situation as well. However, Northrop Grumman encourages involvement in community activities. If there is an event that you believe the company may want to support, bring it to the attention of your location's Community Relations Office.
