Marine & Land-Based Sensor Arrays

In line with DoD interests is the development of rapidly deployable marine and land-based acoustic-seismic sensor arrays. Depending on the application, these arrays may contain optical geophones, fiber-optic hydrophones, and/or fiber-optic microphones. They may be deployed in all types of terrain and marine environments to accommodate such applications as perimeter security, harbor monitoring, and ground surveillance. As compared to conventional sensor technology, advantages of fiber-optic sensor arrays include improved performance and reliability, with reduced cost, weight and size. Additionally, since the fiber-optic sensor array is not operated electrically, and consists of only non-metallic materials, detection of the array by enemy forces using conventional means is unlikely.
